So as we slowly but surely progress into twenty fourteen, we’ve been meaning to post a review of our year! 2013 has been an incredible and insanely busy time for both of us and we can look back on this time with fondness. It’s been a year of new situations, challenges, fun times and a visit to the happiest place in the world (tokyo disneyland!). It’s been an amazing year of new friendships, more collaborations and been filled with joyous memories with friends and family
For Vess, 2013 has been honestly one of the most challenging years as she worked hard to complete her folio in her final year of uni. She entered this course in 2010 knowing that there was nothing else that she would rather do than become a graphic designer. After high amounts of stress, lots of paper, long nights at uni and many visits to printers Vess completed her course and is so proud looking back to the work she’s done. It’s also been a year of trying new things; such as doing two internships, one at Lightfm radio and the other with Kelly Thompson fashion illustrator. Both internships were absolutely incredible and rewarding. Vess also went to a ton of design events this year (mainly because students get a substantial discount!) and was lucky enough to work as a volunteer at Semi Permanent and met Val’s design girl crush Jessica Hische. It’s also coming to her second year working for Crumpler. All her hard work attempting to model for Val paid off when she was asked to have some pictures taken of her for Crumpler’s social media.
2013 for Val was a new refreshing year filled with so much new experiences She was in her first year in a new job at World Vision Australia as part of the door to door sales team. She met some incredible people and worked hard to get sponserships, so children in disadvantage areas can live a life of hope and saftey. It was also a big year for her photography. Val was the official photographer for the Monash Marketing Club and covered a range of their events. This gig lead to a series of other jobs ranging from graduations to 21st birthday parties. Along the way, Val managed to organise some amazing content for Big Picture Stuff just through her meeting people and encouraging creative collaboration! Finally, Val was so proud and blessed to be our church’s youth group girl coach. Making some wonderful relationships and watching young girls aged from yr 7-12 grow in their own leadership!
If you ask both of us what we learnt this year, they vary. This year being such a significant year for Vess was filled with some new circumstances and opportunities that she is forever grateful for. However, she can say that she learn two principles this year; the first is that it’s so important to be real and true to yourself. The second is that despite all the things happening in life, the most important thing in life is to love. After the year has past, we don’t look to our accomplishments, rather we look to the friends who are standing beside us as we bid the year farewell.
For Val, she learnt that it’s important to chase your dreams and grapse every opportunity. So many amazing experiences from 2013 arose from just being in the right place at the right time. And being able to say yes enthusiastically because you know its something that you’re passionate about. Going for it despite how scared you are! Also, she learnt that the best things in life come from valuing and eddifying people. THis year more than ever, Val found herself learning so much from people in all walks of life. She also found that just from valuing people, it results in great opportunities that she would have never expected to experience!
Finally, in the world of big picture stuff, we have had an amazing year and are forever grateful for all who supported us in 2013. To everyone who spoke to us and said they enjoyed our blog, to people who suggested ideas or collaborations, to friends who demonstrated their support to us, to those who left a comment on a post! (Thank you wonderful Susan!!). This Big Picture adventure has been an incredibly rewarding one, despite starting somewhat shakily, we are so thankful to you for helping us find our voice. Thank you for enjoying our blog with us and appreciating what we love to do. (Also thank you if you’ve made it this far in the post. This may be the wordest post of 2014)
As we venture into the new year, it’s going to be one of the most unexpected years yet. Val is heading very soon to the UK for 6 months whilst Vess will be working at starting her graphic design career. Both of us have no idea what to expect for 2014 nor do we have any idea how this blog is going to work if we’re not taken pictures of each other! What we can tell you to expect though, is to expect another year of discovery, beautiful imagery, countless stories and the appreciation of all that is beautiful in the world.
Lets expect great things shall we?
