“Purer colours… have in themselves, independently of the objects they serve to express, a significant action on the feelings of those who look at them.”
Colour is beautiful, it’s valuable and it means to so much to us in a practical, spiritual and emotional sense.
You may have recently seen on Instagram and Facebook, we’ve decided to start an ongoing search for colourful walls in Melbourne.
Perhaps because no one else is.
Melbournians are known to dress super minimal and monochrome (a fashion trend which never seemed to fit my repertoire) and fashion bloggers of Melbourne do the same. Most take photos of beautiful black and white attire in front of white or grey walls, looking ultra sleek and suave. If you want ideas for locations to take photos like this let me know, I have a few up my sleeve.
I love Instagram, don’t get me wrong, but what irks me is the lack of colour. People tend to commit to images of just black and white to in order to gain a sublime and minimalist feel. Which I don’t condone, I just know that it’s something which Big Picture Stuff isn’t at all.
So now you have the back story. My idea didn’t take root until I connected with the ever so lovely Rosie from Rclayton (check out her amazing Instagram, it will seriously blow you away) who I believe resides in the sunny part of either Chicago or California. The amount of COLOUR bursting from her Instagram simply stole my heart and made me yearn to either buy a ton of paint, become a graffiti artist or move to L.A to chase my dreams of an Instagram rainbow.
But, in a sweet Instagram exchange Rosie encouraged us to “find the colour in your city, you just have to look”.
Never one to shy from a challenge I took it upon myself to do just that, hence our hashtag #COLOURMELBOURNE
So you know the drill, if you find a colourful wall in Melbourne use the hashtag. Doesn’t have to be extremely amazing, it could even be the side of your local Officeworks, it just has to have a bit of colour that inspires and brings joy to your day!
Here’s some colourful walls we’ve found so far.
