“Purer colours… have in themselves, independently of the objects they serve to express, a significant action on the feelings of those who look at them.”

-Henri Matisse

Colour is beautiful, it’s valuable and it means to so much to us in a practical, spiritual and emotional sense.
You may have recently seen on Instagram and Facebook, we’ve decided to start an ongoing search for colourful walls in Melbourne.

Why?

Perhaps because no one else is.val-footscray-arts-centre-11

Melbournians are known to dress super minimal and monochrome (a fashion trend which never seemed to fit my repertoire) and fashion bloggers of Melbourne do the same. Most take photos of beautiful black and white attire in front of white or grey walls, looking ultra sleek and suave. If you want ideas for locations to take photos like this let me know, I have a few up my sleeve.

I love Instagram, don’t get me wrong, but what irks me is the lack of colour. People tend to commit to images of just black and white to in order to gain a sublime and minimalist feel. Which I don’t condone, I just know that it’s something which Big Picture Stuff isn’t at all.val-footscray-arts-centre-3

So now you have the back story. My idea didn’t take root until I connected with the ever so lovely Rosie from Rclayton (check out her amazing Instagram, it will seriously blow you away) who I believe resides in the sunny part of either Chicago or California. The amount of COLOUR bursting from her Instagram simply stole my heart and made me yearn to either buy a ton of paint, become a graffiti artist or move to L.A to chase my dreams of an Instagram rainbow.

But, in a sweet Instagram exchange Rosie encouraged us to “find the colour in your city, you just have to look”.val-footscray-arts-centre

Never one to shy from a challenge I took it upon myself to do just that, hence our hashtag #COLOURMELBOURNE

So you know the drill, if you find a colourful wall in Melbourne use the hashtag. Doesn’t have to be extremely amazing, it could even be the side of your local Officeworks, it just has to have a bit of colour that inspires and brings joy to your day!

Here’s some colourful walls we’ve found so far.

What’s that one thing that every girl knows and dreams of? It’s common knowledge that every young lady grows up  wishfully thinking and dreaming of their ‘big day’. For some the big day may be when they get their first job, graduate from uni, move out of home. However, we would be kidding ourselves if we didn’t define the big day as the “wedding day”.

We’ve personally love love love weddings. We love the different aspects of it, the beautiful flowers, the amazing cakes, the touching photographs, the thought out table decor. We’ve been lucky enough to photograph weddings, make invites, do videography, and it never gets old! What we love the most is that weddings are ultimately a celebration of two people joining in love, life and in holy matrimony. That on that day, it is the opportunity for a couple to get creative in sharing their story and having the best day celebrating their love with their closest and most cherished!

From what we’ve seen, if can be daunting approaching the task of creating that perfect day. From the decor to the clothing, there’s not one detail that can be missed. If there’s one thing that we have learnt from the weddings that we’ve been a part of, is that no one wants to have that cookie cutter wedding where the results are formulatic and has no personal touch. That’s where the Esty Bride Trunk show comes in!

Simply put, there was a variety of gorgeous sellers who were so kind, generous and sweet. They proudly shared their creations and it was so great being able to chat to people who loved weddings and creativity just as much as we do! Did we mention they had an Instagram wreath and the wonderful Mint and Melon Boutique taught us how to make our own floral crowns? Best event ever? Yes!

CREATIVE INSPIRATION
@amyclemens12

Seeing Amy’s photo realistic drawings of whimsical, beautiful girls, you first question whether Amy’s work is a photograph or actually a drawing. All of her artwork is created with pencil on paper, an idea, and a love for beauty. Starting her illustration journey with a self imposed challenge to draw something everyday, her sharing of her work quickly led to a following of 20K followers on instagram. We sat down with her and talked about her creative journey and her passion for art.
