More then ever, I’ve been learning the value of relaxing. Taking time out, slowing down, stopping and having moments of reflection. However, not only am I learning the physical act of relaxing, I am practicing the mental act of relaxing. To really say to my brain, “hey, you, that thought there, you got to stop running around and around in my mind.” and another one that I am constantly telling myself, “just… stop freaking out.” Maybe it’s anxiety, maybe it’s an over active imagination, maybe it’s my desire to have a strategy for everything, I’m not totally sure. But what I do know is that when I tell myself to breathe and relax, I’m showing myself deep kindness and compassion.
Two other thoughts. Number one. Pink is the colour of the season, I am totally and completely in love with the colour combinations that it invites! Pink and mustard, pink and green, pink and navy. It’s possibilities are just divine. Number two. Good things take time. We really live in a microwave world, if something doesn’t happen after a couple of months we deem it as being a complete dud. I listened to a talk by Debbie Millman recently and she emphasised that her journey was one of uncertainty, exploration and going after things she was passionate about. All of that doesn’t neatly fit into a year, or even 10 years! So, I suppose it comes back to self-compassion yet again. Recognising that so many things in life are not a “not for you” but rather are a”not yet”.
Honestly, we are excited for this not yet season, but also excited to share. To share our creativity with you, things that bring us joy, things that we want to explore. Excited allow ourselves to try things and let you see our mistakes and hopefully let you see our courage to create.
Isn’t true that when you stop, look and observe, you find so much more than you thought you would? For as they say, beauty can be found in the most unlikely of places and big things come in small packages.
Not only that, but these often a time when the smallest of details bring a whole piece together and create much more than what you expected. A stroke of a brush, the perfect phrase, maybe even that ideal emoji that seems to just sum up all those emotions that can’t seem to be expressed in 50 words or less.
Perhaps that’s what’s just so magical about the jewellery that Emily for Emclectic collection creates. Delicate, refined, precise. Nothing left to chance. Everything colour, piece and shape chosen with clarity and joy. And the effect that they have? As we described. Precision, completion, perfection.
We had a pleasure collaboration with the lovely Emily and Livia to bring this shoot to life. All hand made and carefully created by Emily, her latest ranges have hues of pastel pink and sage green and are just waiting to add that little something to your autumn wardrobe.
It’s our pleasure to kick off big picture stuff’s photography with a bang. Or should we say with some prickly new pics. Inspired by the incredible artist Frida Kahlo, we collaborated with our favourite Livia from L is for Olive to create this photo series. Frida Kahlo was a Spanish artist who was loosely identified with the Surrealist art movement, but was known for her arresting self portraits that did not shy from telling her personal truth. In photos and in her paintings, she was never seen without flowers in hair.
This has to be one of our favourite photo series that we’ve ever done for our blog and it wouldn’t be possible with that amazing lady that you see in the photo! The idea all stemmed from seeing Liv‘s tassel earrings half a year ago. From that moment, we knew we had to pull something together honouring Frida. Then we discovered, Cactus Country. Is this a photographer’s dream, yes. Is it incredibly amazing, yes. Does it make you feel that you’re in some distant land, yes again.
If we can take something away from photo shoot, we would say, we learnt that even if you have the tinest concept or the inkling of an idea that excites you, go for it. You never know where that idea will take you and you don’t know what adventures that idea is going to take you on.
Sending our love to our darling Livia who has moved up to Sydney to pursue even more adventures and follow her heart. We miss you lovely one, but we know that you have some amazing things in store for you.
And if you’re reading this, that goes for you too! We’re excited to pick up the blog post for this year, it may be a little backwards at times, but we’re going to get back into the swing of things! Why? Cause we love it!
