Once Upon a Time
Every good fairy tale begins with a story. The lead character is faced with a task, encounters resistance and finds the strength and courage to over come. The story of The Little Mermaid, Rapunzel, Sleeping Beauty and Snow White are all classic fairy tales of young (really young! Ariel was only 16 when she ‘went to the surface’) heroines who we love to identify with and to imagine ourselves as.
However, these stories not only exist in fairytales, but in so many aspects of our lives. Stories of resistance, heartbreak, love or hope. Stories of courage, fear and of exhilaration. Just look at HONY to see how strongly stories can speak to us. These stories surround us and are communicated to us on a constant non stop basis through so many channels, may it be through print, social media or through friends. Our societal fascination with stories stems from our innate desire to understand the world and to be apart of it. Connecting with others and hearing their stories integrates us as part of humanity. Simply through the act of knowing that we are not alone.
So dear friends, what is your story?
What makes you…..you? Please comment and share below your thoughts on stories, your favourite fairy tale or even your thoughts on Ariel going ‘to the surface’ at age of 16.
Big Picture Stuff is as much your story as it is ours.
Thanks again to my dear friend Alice for taking these shots!
Sending our love to you
