How can someone with a camera, or a brush make a difference to hundreds of people’s lives? Spur Afrika showed us how.

A night organised by two incredible individuals, Sharon and Rosalie, art, charity and community came together to create one amazing night. What Spur Afrika aims to do is: equip children and young adults in the Kibera area of Nairobi, Kenya through facilitation of literacy, leadership and life skills. Through a holistic approach, the team works to empower and make a change in people’s lives. Sharon and Rosalie are two ambassadors for the organisation and work to raise funds here in Melbourne, through fun runs, sponsorships and in this case, an art auction.
The theme for the night was “Utopia” and artist were put to the test to come up with pieces that reflected that idea. It ranged from photography, oil paintings, typography and even a pillow cover and necklaces! We ourselves made typographic and woollen banners the reflected the ideas of myth and legends of utopia. Attendees to the night were given the opportunity to appreciate the pieces, support a great cause and to take some artwork home!
We left the auction completely inspired and thankful to be a small part of a great cause.
Thank you to the Spur Afrika team for putting together a wonderful event!
