Even though the feeling of finishing a project is amazing and we love what we do, we’ve learnt that your mind, health and spirit is more whole when you take time to purposely relax and renew yourself.
Coming into the middle of the year, we feel personally that we’re constantly fighting back stress and it can be really difficult to slow down. The words, busy, stressed, overwhelmed and tired are phrases that seem to be token words during the months of July/August. We are definately guilty of putting tasks before well being, and it took us a long time to learn the importance of slowing down.
Before we share our four relaxation tips, here are two things that will indefinately assist in the de-stressing process; Firstly, clear your mind from any thoughts that relates to any stressful situations. Finally, the really difficult one, switch off your phone. The first step towards de-stressing is to remove things that you feel need your attention and shift your attention on slowing down and being in the moment.
Four tips for Purposeful Relaxation
1) Reflection and Journalling
Sit down with a book and ask yourselves these questions, what have I felt today, what areas have I grown into, what am I thankful for? Note down your difficulties, your dreams, your struggles. Be kind to yourself and being able to see your thoughts written down really helps to remind oneself what’s important in life. Refocus and enjoy the process of jotting your thoughts on paper.
There’s nothing better than sitting down with a good book. We’ve been guilty of falling into the trap of scrolling through our facebook newsfeeds, or through the endless stream of instagram photos. But taking the time to sit down with a book to fill yourself with thoughts, observations, stories and imagination, takes you to a place of focus and clarity.
3) Spend time with close friends, preferably at a cute cafe
Sometimes in the muddle of this thing called life, we need to pull ourselves out of our normal routine and fill ourselves with things that bring joy, happiness and comfort. And for us that involves; friends, beautiful food and gorgeous interiors. And more often than not, our friends will give us a perspective on life that helps us to see who we are an what we’re doing is important.
4) Go for a long walk and be refreshed by nature.
The benefits of walking and the benefits of nature are both so important. From the feeling of having fresh air in your lungs to the moving through the world appreciating nature. We love taking walks and allowing our mind to wander and ponder on life and
